Catching Air To Relieve Stress
I recently read one definition of addiction (A positive addiction is a beneficial habit–where the benefits outweigh the costs) recently and realized I have had a positive addiction my whole life with out even really realizing it.
You see I have been addicted to to chasing the wind for a long time. More accurately I guess I am an adrenalin junkie. My addiction has caused me to miss work and has disrupted my social life. My life revolved around the weather forecast. If it was a windy day there was nothing else to do but check the direction and get get to the best spot.
I have met so many interesting people and been to places that I would have never even thought about going to if it was not for chasing wind.
My favorite wind fix, Kitesurfing, has many physical and mental benefits.
It is like going to the gym and doing full body workouts without the boredom of lifting weights. It works your abs, back legs arms every time you go out.It can sometimes become a cardio workout if you lose your board and have to either body drag or swim to find it.You will be tired, hungry and sleep very well after a good session.
But I think what caused the addiction to really take hold were the mental benefits. The way I would feel after a good session.I think kitesurfing/windsurfing have been some of the best types of self help and coping mechanisms in my life.
There is a peace that you feel after a good session.Your perspective on life changes at least for a little while. You get into this peaceful zone where nothing fazes you,all problems you might have before you go out are still there when you come in they just don’t affect you like they did before you went out.
It is like moving meditation, total concentration on one thing .Your mind is so focused, so totally present in what you are doing that for the time you are doing “a move” you are thinking about absolutely nothing else but the move. Nothing !! Total bliss one turn or jump at a time. There is no where else for your mind to be at or go to because if it wonders you will crash and feel pain. Kitesurfing can be very unforgiving, if you get it right it is sweet, get it wrong and it will punish you.
You are hanging on to this thing that pulls like a tractor and will drag you any where it wants if you don’t learn to control it. You are putting your self into a situation that would completely terrify most regular people and because you come out alive and unhurt your confidence level goes up.You learn to stay calm and not panic if things go wrong. You realize that panic is the worst thing to give in to at ANY time in ANY situation.
Want to get into shape and find nirvana at the same time ?.Take some kitesurfing lessons. It will difficult at first especially if you are really out of shape, But stick with it spend a few hours learning to fly the kite, show it that you are in control not it.
Once you feel and control the power there is no turning back.
I know everyone is different. Extreme things can be very frighting for some people but you should try to find something that allows you to move your body. Perhaps you could learn Yoga or do body weight exercises. But do something. Movement is the key to a healthy life
Voice Of Wisdom Words to live By
We can only learn so much through study and research. Experience adds dimension to knowledge and the combination is what gives birth to real world wisdom.I really appreciate the perspective of older ones who have acquired wisdom through their many years of experience. if we are paying attention the passage of time teaches us many lessons, these lessons become cumulative.
I would like to share with you the wisdom of an exceptional man. Not only is he 97 years old and still going strong, but the depth of his knowledge and experience is extraordinary. He is one of the worlds oldest physicians and educators, and this is a sampling of what he has learned during his considerable lifetime.
Words To Live By From a 97 Year Old
At the age of 97 years and 4 months, Shigeaki Hinohara is one of the world’s longest-serving physicians and educators.Since 1941 he has been healing patients at St. Luke’s International Hospital in Tokyo and teaching at St. Luke’s College of Nursing. He has published around 150 books since his 75th birthday, including one “Living Long, Living Good” that has sold more than 1.2 million copies. As the founder of the New Elderly Movement, Hinohara encourages others to live a long and happy life, a quest in which no role model is better than the doctor himself.
Energy comes from feeling good, not from eating well or sleeping a lot. Hinohara says we all remember how as children, when we were having fun, we often forgot to eat or sleep. He believes that we can keep that attitude as adults, too, and that it’s best not to tire the body with too many rules such as lunchtime and bedtime.
All people who live long — regardless of nationality, race or gender — share one thing in common: None are overweight. For breakfast Hinohara drinks coffee, a glass of milk and some orange juice with a tablespoon of olive oil in it. His lunch is milk and a few cookies. His dinner is veggies, a bit of fish and rice, and, twice a week, 100 grams of lean meat.
Always plan ahead. His schedule book is already full until 2014. In 2016 he plans to attend the Tokyo Olympics!
There is no need to ever retire, but if one must, it should be a lot later than 65. The current retirement age was set at 65 half a century ago, when the average life-expectancy in Japan was much lower.
Share what you know. Hinohara gives 150 lectures a year, some for 100 elementary-school children, others for 4,500 business people.
When a doctor recommends you take a test or have some surgery, ask whether the doctor would suggest that his or her spouse or children go through such a procedure. Contrary to popular belief, doctors can’t cure everyone — so why cause unnecessary pain with surgery? Hinohara thinks that music and animal therapy can help more than most doctors imagine.
To stay healthy, always take the stairs and carry your own stuff. He take two stairs at a time, to get his muscles moving.
Pain is mysterious, and having fun is the best way to forget it. Hospitals must cater to the basic need of patients, and we all want to have fun.
Don’t be crazy about amassing material things. Remember: You don’t know when your number is up, and you can’t take it with you to the next place.
Hospitals must be designed and prepared for major disasters, and they must accept every patient who appears at their doors. Hinohara helped design St. Luke’s so that it was possible to operate anywhere: in the basement, in the corridors, in the chapel. Most people thought he was crazy, but on March 20, 1995, he was unfortunately proven right when members of the Aum Shinrikyu religious cult launched a terrorist attack in the Tokyo subway. St. Luke’s accepted 740 victims and in two hours figured out that it was sarin gas that had hit them. Sadly they lost one person, but they saved 739 lives.
Science alone can’t cure or help people. Illness is individual. Each person is unique, and diseases are connected to their hearts. To know the illness and help people, there is a need for liberal and visual arts, not just medical ones.
Life is filled with incidents. On March 31, 1970, when Hinohara was 59 years old, he boarded the Yodogo, a flight from Tokyo to Fukuoka. The plane was hijacked by the Japanese Communist League-Red Army Faction. He spent the next four days handcuffed to his seat. As a doctor, he looked at it all as an experiment and was amazed at how his body slowed down in a crisis.
Find a role model and aim to achieve even more than they could ever do. Hinohara’s role model was his father, who went to the United States in 1900 to study at Duke University, in North Carolina.
It’s wonderful to live long. Since the age of 65, Hinohara has worked as a volunteer. He still puts in 18 hours, seven days a week, and loves every minute of it.

For me there is no shortage of things to do…The having part that
is a little more difficult.Sometimes too many
possessions can be an obstacle to being happy.
How do you find more freedom ? Trading Forex is one way.

If you did know, what would the answer be ???
I know, I don’t know either..
The answer can mean different things depending on your perspective.I think I know things but really I realize I don’t know anything at all
I think focus is important. Everyday I can choose what I focus on ?? Do I think of my failures and limitations,my fears, all things I do not have ?? Do I focus on what is already good in my life and try to make it better ??
Would it be better to stop thinking so much and waiting on validation from others ?
What are the best ways to fight that “silent killer” called procrastination ? Should my mindset be to hell with circumstances; I create opportunities ?
Could I kick the procrastination habit by each day doing the hardest, the toughest and worst thing first ?

5 Nutrition Tips for Fat Loss
This is always tough to admit, but nutrition is more important than
your workouts when it comes to fat loss.
And since diet is more important than exercise, I’ve decided to
spend some time sharing nutrition tips this week, starting with
these 5 diet secrets:
1) Your nutrition program doesn’t have to be extreme.
Hold up on making any extreme diet changes. Make sure the nutrition
plan you’ve chosen is sustainable. Simple diet changes go a lot
farther than you might think.
Why not just eat more whole, natural foods rather than trying to go
on an impossible-to-stick-to ultra-low carb extreme plan?
2) Get the junk out of the house.
If it’s in your house, you’ll eat it…and trust me, this goes for
me too. When I visit a relative’s house for holiday, I always eat the
treats they have sitting around. That’s why I keep the junk out of
my house.
So whatever your weakness is, keep it out of your home.
Success is that simple.
3) Fill in the “diet-killing” gap.
For some folks, the diet-killing gap is between work and dinner.
For others, it’s between dinner and bedtime, but for almost
everyone, there is a point in the day when we suffer from mindless
eating.
So make sure you have alternatives…as soon as you come home from
work, cut up vegetables and dip them into hummus. That will keep
you full on a small amount of calories.
After dinner, if you need something sweet, stir up chocolate
protein powder into a small bit of plain yogurt. That will satisfy
you.
4) Chew your food 5-10 times before swallowing.
Most people eat so fast they only about 1-2 times. You’ll really
notice a difference and you’ll slow your eating so you feel full.
5) Have a bowl of broth-based vegetable soup before a meal.
American researcher Barbara Roll has published a lot of studies
showing that this will help you reduce the food you eat.
Surprisingly, consuming just water doesn’t seem to do the same
trick.
So those are just 5 of the diet secrets we have for you this year.
Stay tuned for proven secrets to help you lose fat in 2010.
